Chandani Flinn came on board as STAR/PAL's Executive Director in February, 2005. Chandani graduated with Honors from UC Berkeley in 1993 with a Double Major in Legal Studies and Political Economy as well as a Minor in Rhetoric. In 1997, she received a law degree from the UC Hastings School of Law. Chandani comes to STAR/PAL after seven years of prosecutorial experience as a Deputy City Attorney in San Diego. For five years, Chandani served as the Mid-City Neighborhood Prosecutor, during which time she was awarded the "San Diego County Peacemaker Award" and was named "Prosecutor of the Year." Chandani greatly enjoys traveling, visiting with family, learning about wildlife, watching movies, exercising, and having fun with friends. Christine Reed-Director of Corporate & Public Relations Christine Reed is the Director of Corporate & Public Relations at STAR/PAL. She graduated from Western Oregon University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, and graduated from National University with an MBA in E-Commerce. In her position at STAR/PAL, Christine works on special events and fundraisers including the annual "Superheroes for Youth" Celebrity Waiter Luncheon. She also oversees grants, marketing and public relations at STAR/PAL. During her free time, Christine enjoys spending time with friends and family. creed@starpal.org
Dan Ellison-Director of Operations
Sergeant Dan Ellison is the Director of Operations at STAR/PAL. Dan has been with the San Diego Police Department for 27 years, working a variety of assignments including: Patrol SWAT, Emergency Negotiations, and several administrative assignments. As the Director of Operations, he helps address facility related needs and works on staffing and other logistical issues related to our programs and operations. Lori Turnage-Program Director Lori Turnage is a STAR/PAL Program Director and has been an officer with the San Diego County Probation Department since 2000. Lori is the Program Director for STAR/PAL's "GirL-E, Leadership & Empowerment" program which takes place in the Girls' Rehabilitation Center as well as at a variety of school sites. She also oversees our youth Ticket/Field Trip Program, Annual Summer Camp as well as a variety of clinics including Cheerleading, Surf, and Basketball. Chela Pino-Jarvis-Program Director
Marisela "Chela" Pino-Jarvis has been with the San Diego Police Department since 1989. Chela oversees the Youth Activity Room at STAR/PAL's new facility involving neighborhood youth in daily activities at our Center and in the park which surrounds it. She also takes an active role in providing Community Outreach to ensure that community organizations, youth, and their parents are aware of the many programs and resources that STAR/PAL offers. Chela's other Program Director responsibilities include: The"Cops and Kids" program, after-school programs as well as STAR/PAL partnership events with Kidz Korps and the Old Globe. cpino@starpal.org
Tom Miller-Program Director
Tom has been with the San Diego Police Department since 1986 and is currently a STAR/PAL Program Director. He has worked several assignments within the department such as: Special Enforcement Division, Tac Bikes, DARE, and Juvenile Services. Tom is currently working on getting his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice after transferring from Miramar College. Tom oversees STAR/PAL’s Deep-Sea Fishing Trips, Chargers Junior Training Camps, KIDZWATCH Academies, Padres Rookie Clinics and Summer Baseball/Softball Leagues. Aalke Heuvelman- Youth Center Coordinator
Aalke Heuvelman is the Youth Center Coordinator at STAR/PAL at our facility overseeing onsite programs, partnerships and volunteers. She originally is from the Netherlands and moved to the United States to pursue a college degree. While at San Diego State University, she was an active member of the San Diego State International Community. She also graduated with honors with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in Spanish. In her free time she likes to spend time with friends and family.
