Arts Reflecting Prevention

The Arts Reflecting Prevention Program is an anti-drug and alcohol mural contest involving youth between the ages of 11 and 14 years of age. This contest represents a partnership between STAR/PAL and Club Live, a program run out of the San Diego Office of Education that offers positive activities with an anti-drug and alcohol emphasis for middle school youth in the County of San Diego. Together STAR/PAL and Club Live offer this program to the first 30 groups that enter by responding before a specified deadline. The contest was designed to be a fun and creative way to teach youth about the dangers of alcohol and tobacco, and how advertising is used to manipulate the use of these products. Schools and youth group sites receive a presentation explaining the contest on a day and time convenient to them. The presentation, art materials and awards ceremony are free of charge. Medals and other prizes will go to every participant of the contest, with a grand prize being awarded to the most creative mural. All participants are invited to an awards ceremony that provides plenty of food, music and fun. For more information contact Officer Chela Pino Jarvis at 619-531-1501 or email her at cpino@pd.sandiego.gov.
