The "Kids, Cops and Cameras" will be a visual arts program that teams up professional photographers, police officers and Starbucks volunteers to help youth discover and understand their communities through visual arts and writing composition.
The “Kids, Cops and Cameras” program has several specific goals:
- To explore and shape youth perspectives of their community.
- To inspire self expression through photography and writing.
- To provide students with essential photography skills.
- To continue participation in other STAR/PAL activities.
- To generate increased interest in community service involvement.
- To provide one-on-one mentorship with positive role models.
Curriculum
The “Kids, Cops and Cameras” program will be offered 10 months out of the year to two different class groups each month. Each group will meet once a week for 3 weeks and the class sessions will be 3 hours in length. Each group will consist of 12-14 participants.
